On Thanksgiving, is the stock market open or closed?

U.S. stock markets, including the Nasdaq and New York Stock Exchange (NYSE), will be closed on Thursday, November 28, in observance of Thanksgiving. On Friday, November 29, markets will reopen but will close early at 1 p.m. ET. Similarly, the U.S. bond market will remain closed on Thanksgiving and is scheduled to close early at 2 p.m. ET on Black Friday, as per the Securities Industry and Financial Markets Association.

Following the Thanksgiving break and early closure on Black Friday, regular trading hours will resume until late December. The next market holiday is Wednesday, December 25, in observance of Christmas. Additionally, markets will close early at 1 p.m. ET on Christmas Eve, December 24.

U.S. Stock Market Holiday Schedule for 2024:

  • Thanksgiving: Thursday, November 28 (early closure at 1 p.m. ET on November 29)
  • Christmas: Wednesday, December 25 (early closure at 1 p.m. ET on December 24)
