Microsoft (NASDAQ) CEO Satya Nadella saw a significant 63% increase in his compensation for fiscal 2024, bringing his total to $79.1 million, according to a Thursday filing. This surge was largely driven by stock awards, as the company’s market value surpassed $3 trillion during the year.

Nadella's stock awards rose sharply to approximately $71 million, up from $39 million the previous year. In 2023, he earned $48.5 million. Microsoft’s share price saw a 31.2% increase during the fiscal year that ended on June 30, 2024.

The company’s leadership in generative artificial intelligence (AI), bolstered by its investment in OpenAI, has positioned Microsoft as a key player in the tech industry's AI race.

Despite being eligible for a $10.7 million cash incentive, Nadella opted for a reduced payout of $5.2 million, citing multiple cybersecurity breaches during the fiscal year as the reason for the decrease, according to the filing.

In comparison, other notable tech CEOs like Apple (NASDAQ) CEO Tim Cook earned $63.2 million in 2023, while Nvidia (NASDAQ) CEO Jensen Huang received $34.2 million for fiscal 2024.
