Apple Inc. (NASDAQ) has reportedly reduced its workforce by approximately 100 employees within its digital services division, reflecting a shift in the company's priorities, Bloomberg reported on Tuesday.

The layoffs impacted various teams under the leadership of Senior Vice President Eddy Cue, with the most significant reductions occurring in those involved with Apple’s bookstore services, according to sources cited by Bloomberg.

This move is an unusual occurrence for the Cupertino-based tech giant, which has generally avoided layoffs even as other major tech companies have been cutting jobs.

Apple is preparing to unveil the latest version of its flagship iPhone in early September, along with a range of new artificial intelligence features for its devices. The iPhone 16 is expected to be at the forefront of Apple’s AI initiatives, amid rising expectations that AI could help revive growth after more than a year of declining device sales.

Earlier reports suggested that Apple had canceled its long-anticipated car project to prioritize AI development. Approximately 2,000 employees were reassigned, with some potential redundancies as a result.
