Market Analysis
After his official nomination at the Republican National Convention (RNC) last week, Republican candidate Donald Trump has widened his lead in the 2024 presidential race, according to a HarrisX/Forbes poll.
The survey, conducted from July 19-21, revealed that Trump holds a six percentage point lead over Biden and Harris, with a 54% to 47% margin. This marks a two-point increase from the previous poll held between July 13-15.
The poll surveyed 2,753 registered voters.
However, the impact of President Joe Biden's recent withdrawal from the race and his endorsement of Vice President Kamala Harris on the election outlook remains uncertain. The poll was conducted before Biden announced his exit from the presidential race on Sunday, endorsing Harris as the Democratic candidate.
Although Harris has garnered endorsements from many top Democratic Party members, she still needs to secure the official nomination at the Democratic National Convention in August. Additionally, Harris must choose a running mate.
The HarrisX/Forbes poll also showed Biden and Harris with an approval rating of 38%.
Trump's Lead Increases Following Shooting and Debate
Trump was officially nominated as the Republican presidential candidate at the RNC last week, selecting Ohio Senator J.D. Vance as his running mate.
Previous polling indicated that Trump had a narrow lead over Biden and Harris following Biden's poorly received debate performance in June, which led to growing calls for him to withdraw from the race.
Trump's lead further increased after an assassination attempt earlier in July, during which a bullet narrowly grazed his ear at a rally in Butler, Pennsylvania.
During his nomination speech at the RNC, Trump recounted the shooting incident, criticized Biden and the Democrats, and expressed confidence in a 2024 victory.
Speaking to reporters after Biden's withdrawal, Trump stated that Harris would be easier to defeat.
